Guild Military Structure

Strategos - the overall commander of all military forces in the Eternal Guard, the Strategos is the de-facto leader of the entire organization. However, he relies on the Tribune and Magisters to maintain the day-to-day business of the groups that provide material and services to the soldiery.

STANDARD INFANTRY

  • Legatus - a Legatus is the Lochagos chosen by the Strategos to be in command of a full company; that is, four combat groups' worth of soldiers. In addition to their command duties for their own group, the Legatus acts as an assistant commander and battle planner to the Strategos.
  • Lochagos - the captain and leader of a combat group within the Eternal Guard's forces. They are chosen by the Legatus to which their group is assigned, and are given general command for the organization and operation of their men in battle. The Lochagos selects his second-in-command (Vicarius) from the members of his group.
  • Vicarius - the secondary officer of a combat group, they are appointed by the Lochagos from one of the other five members and are given the responsibility of assuming command if the Lochagos is not present or falls in battle.
  • Miles - the basic rank of any soldier in the Eternal Guard. There are four Miles in each basic combat unit fielded by the Eternal Guard.

CAVALRY

  • Decurion - these officers are the cavalry equivalent of a Legatus. Due to the differing nature of cavalry in battle, there is only one officer per company of cavalry.
  • Turmarii - this is the basic rank of any dedicated cavalry fighter.

SKIRMISHERS
Skirmishers are either non-regular forces, or soldiers on special assignment.

  • Skopos - these soldiers serve as battle scouts for the Strategos and his subordinates.
  • Phonon - their name means 'agent of slaughter' and such are the missions they are given. Individuals or small groups of Phonon may be sent out during battle to achieve a very specific objective or remove a certain target from the battle.
  • Numerii - these are irregular troops who are brought into battle when needed. Their ranks consist primarily of mercenaries hired for a specific battle or effort, as well as members of the Eternal Guard who have only the basic combat training that everyone receives.

Guild Political Structure

  • Tribune - chosen by popular consensus of the Magisters, the Tribune acts as the civilian equivalent of the Strategos, and has the final responsibility for overseeing the crafters and other non-military contributors to the Eternal Guard.
  • Magister - these individuals come from higher levels of society, and have experience in governance and management that is put to the use of the Eternal Guard. They also serve as liaisons to the various noble courts across Aquilonia, and are responsible for opening certain doors or avenues of communication that would otherwise be blocked to the Eternal Guard's purposes.
  • Praetorian - this rank is given to any soldier or mercenary serving as a temporary (or permanent in some cases) guard to a Magister or the Tribune.

Guild Management Structure

This is the internal guild leadership structure that is not subject to change via in-game events or role-playing. This is to provide a consistent and strong set of leadership for the basic workings of the guild, and lay the foundation to enable the in-character ranks to be fluid and changeable through a player's efforts in character development and internal role-playing scenarios or possibilities. For more information on this aspect (the dynamic in-game ranks) of the guild, please view the information posted here.
